Hello From Fairbanks
Yesterday's drive along the Top of the World Highway was an experiance to say the least! The scenary when we were out of the clouds was spectacular! The road on the Canadian side was gravel and in very good condition. Steep cliffs and few guard rails. The road on the US side was a true dirt road. Still in fairly good shape but very muddy. (Ed kept moaning about the truch and 5th wheel getting so dirty) Again steep drop offs but NO GUARD RAILS!! It was an awesome drive though. We didn't stay in Chicken because there was nothing there. We continued to Tok (pronounced Toke) and stopped at Tok RV Park. The first thing we did was bath the truck and 5th wheel. We must have taken a couple of pounds of mud off of them.
The camp ground had live entertainment. A guitar, fiddle and bango. They were pretty good.
We had brought a bottle of champaine with us to be cracked open to celebrate our first night in Alaska. This trip has been a long time coming!
Today we drove to Fairbanks. It was the first time we didn't get a spot at our first choise of camp ground. We are in a State Park with no hook ups sites available. We still have wi-fi though just no power so I wonder how long the battery on the computer will last. We hope to move to a site with power and water tomorrow.
We plan to spend three nights here and then we will be off to Denali. I have to phone for reservations.
That's it for now.
LOL Ed & Merrilyn
